The zones of regulation are a simple framework to help understand and manage our emotions in daily life. They are often represented by four colors:

  • Blue Zone: when we feel sad, tired, or unmotivated.

  • Green Zone: when we are calm, focused, and ready to learn or interact.

  • Yellow Zone: when we feel anxious, stressed, or excited.

  • Red Zone: when we are angry, out of control, or in crisis.

     

Recognizing which zone we are in helps us identify our emotions and choose strategies to return to a more balanced zone, like taking deep breaths, taking a break, or talking with someone. The last page of the document also allows for a conversation with your child about what a trigger is and how we should manage it to avoid the yellow and red zones.
